Scottish Solicitors face many challenges on a daily basis. A very real example of this is the threat from criminals who look to abuse solicitors firms, and other professional services, by laundering the proceeds of their crimes enabling them to obtain or dispose of assets and create an impression their funds are legitimate. It is crucial, therefore, that solicitors understand their duties regarding compliance with anti money laundering and proceeds of crime obligations. The threat to solicitors is manifest and can include severe criminal sanctions against any professionals who have been involved.
This autumn The Law Society will once again tour Scotland with the Anti Money Laundering Roadshow providing practical insights on how the risks to firms arising from such criminal activity can be managed and how professional and legal obligations can be met. The half day seminar will include speakers from The Law Society Professional Practice Department, UK Borders Agency and Money Laundering Reporting Officers.
This seminar is targeted at Money Laundering Reporting Officers, Solicitors involved in all types of private client work, Paralegals and Support Staff as well as professionals within the Financial Services sector.
