Child witnesses

A third document, "Guidance on Child Witness Court Familiarisation Visits", has been published as part of the Child Witness Support Guidance Pack

In September 2003, the Scottish Executive launched a Child Witness Support Guidance Pack with the first two documents in a series to provide guidance to those in practice dealing with child witnesses. A third document, “Guidance on Child Witness Court Familiarisation Visits”, is now published. Primarily for use by those directing or conducting a court visit for children, it aims to provide consistent practice in relation to those visits, and to ensure that those involved with visits are aware of their importance and are sufficiently skilled to carry out the visit. The guidance is also relevant in relation to vulnerable witnesses. The Society has contributed to the consultation on this document and supports its use by all professionals in the justice system.

Copies can be obtained from the Scottish Executive or accessed on their website at www.scotland.gov.uk/about/JD/JD-BSU/00018245/page105843351.aspx.
