Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

BRODIES LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Brussels, has appointed accredited construction law specialist Juliet Haldane to its construction and engineering team, based in the Glasgow office. She joins from MILLER CONSTRUCTION (UK) LTD.

BURNESS PAULL, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, has appointed Craig Whelton, who joins as a planning partner from BURGES SALMON, and Peter Ward, a senior associate energy specialist who moves from PINSENT MASONS, to its renewable energy team, based in its Edinburgh office.

CARR BERMAN CRICHTON, Glasgow, are pleased to announce that Paul Fairbridge has been appointed as an associate of the firm with effect from 1 October 2014.

CONNELLY & YEOMAN, Arbroath and Carnoustie, is delighted to announce the assumption of Emma Smith and Barry Dewar as partners in the firm with effect from 1 November 2014.

LOW BEATON RICHMOND LLP, Glasgow and Largs, intimate that with effect from 31 October 2014 their former partner, and latterly consultant, Alan Robert Liddell, retired from practice.

MELLICKS, Glasgow, announce that Malcolm Alan Spiers retired as a partner of the firm on 30 October 2014.

PINSENT MASONS, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has appointed corporate dealmaker Barry McCaig as head of its 280-strong Glasgow office. He succeeds Fraser McMillan, who has been appointed head of the firm’s global construction practice.

SHOOSMITHS, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has appointed Sheelagh Cooley as a senior associate in the Real Estate team. She joins from ANDERSON STRATHERN. Private client associate Claire Christie has also joined the Family Law team, from TURCAN CONNELL.

SIMPSON & MARWICK, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, North Berwick and London, has appointed Gordon Walker, a professional claims and policy dispute specialist, as a partner in its English practice, based in London. It has also recruited health and safety experts James Thompson and Kirsty Gomersal from WARD HADAWAY, and dual-qualified tax adviser and solicitor Karen Eckstein and her team.

STRONACHS LLP, Aberdeen and Inverness, has appointed Eric Gilligan, formerly a partner of BRODIES LLP and PAULL & WILLIAMSONS, as a partner.

TAIT & MACKENZIE, solicitors, Grangemouth, announce that Douglas Robertson retired from the firm on 31 October 2014.
