Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

BOYD LEGAL, Edinburgh announces that it is re-establishing its estate agency business after divesting itself of volume mortgage referral conveyancing. Director Mark Hendrie and his team have left the practice. Kerry Wells, who joins from McQUEEN LEGAL, has been appointed property sales director.
The firm has also acquired the practice of GIBSON, SPEARS, DOW & SON, Kirkcaldy, which will be renamed BOYD LEGAL and will provide legal services to Fife clients under partner Peter Aiken, supported by the Edinburgh team.

BRODIES LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, announces the appointment as a partner of David Arnott, a construction disputes specialist, and as associate of Chris Duff, both of whom join from MACROBERTS and will be based in Brodies’ Edinburgh office; and the appointment as a consultant, based in the Glasgow office, of contracts specialist Jane McMonagle, previously a partner with HARPER MACLEOD.

CLANCY HENDRIE, Edinburgh, announces that it has commenced practice. The firm combines the practice of CLANCYS, Edinburgh, under sole principal Paul Clancy, with a team headed by Mark Hendrie, formerly of BOYDS LEGAL, Edinburgh. HBJ GATELEY, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and elsewhere, announces the appointment of Gregor Mitchell, previously with STRONACHS, as a private client partner working from the Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices; the promotion to partner of Lynsey Walker, a solicitor advocate, in the dispute resolution team in Edinburgh; and the appointment as partner of Sarah Baillie, an accredited planning law specialist who joins from ANDERSON STRATHERN, in the real estate team in Glasgow.

SHOOSMITHS LLP, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has appointed commercial dispute resolution partner Stuart Clubb, solicitor advocate, to its Edinburgh office. Joining Shoosmiths from HBJ GATELEY, he will lead the dispute resolution team.

STEWART BALFOUR & SUTHERLAND, Campbeltown and Lochgilphead, intimates that John Dorsey Stewart has retired from the partnership with effect from 31 May 2016, and announces the appointment (with effect from 18 July 2016) of Fiona Anne McLeod (formerly of MACARTHUR LEGAL, Lochgilphead) as an associate. The firm also intimates that with effect from 18 July 2016 its office at Colchester Square, Lochgilphead has relocated to 18 Argyll Street, Lochgilphead PA31 8NE. THORNTONS, Dundee and elsewhere, has expanded its senior team in Kirkcaldy with the appointment of Zoe Stevenson, previously a partner at McEWAN FRASER LEGAL, as an associate in property and private client.
