The SPA’s 2017 annual conference has been set for 20 April, and is set to at least match 2016 for range of attractions

We are delighted to announce that our 2017 Annual Conference will be held on Thursday 20 April 2017 in the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow. We are in the process of securing sponsors and hope to be able to confirm who our sponsors for 2017 will be shortly. Tickets will go on sale in the New Year.

The conference will be a full day event with breakout sessions for the majority of the day. Lunch and refreshments through the day will be provided.

We are already approaching speakers such as Professor Allan Jamieson of the Forensic Institute, whose experience includes the Princess Diana Inquiry, the Omagh bombing and various high-profile murders. Revenue Scotland has also agreed to come and talk about additional dwelling supplement and LBTT. Registers of Scotland, whose 400th anniversary is in 2017, will be in attendance, as will CML and Help to Buy. These are only a few of the speakers as we are still finalising these. We intend to maintain the same format as last year, with speakers for most areas of law so that all delegates can benefit from CPD for this event.

Once again, we are planning our Paralegal of the Year competition. Entry forms will be available soon and we urge as many of you as possible to enter – don’t be shy! You don’t need to be a registered paralegal. You don’t even need to fill in the application form yourself – a colleague or your supervising solicitor can do that for you. Watch out for the announcement on our website that the competition is open for applications. A great prize awaits the winner.

At our 2016 conference, for the first time, we provided a conference brochure which was a huge success according to your feedback. We intend to produce a brochure once again and, along with the brochure, delegates will receive a goody bag and there will also be the usual free raffles.

A great day awaits. We are sure that our 2017 conference will be bigger and better and all who attend will have a terrific day out.
