Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

ABERDEIN CONSIDINE, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has appointed two senior lawyers from ASCENT PERFORMANCE GROUP to its Finance and Banking Litigation team. Myra Scott, previously director of legal services at Ascent, has joined the firm as partner and head of the Lender Services practice group; Laura Browne, formerly a senior associate at Ascent, joins the firm as a partner.

BLACKADDERS, Dundee and elsewhere, has appointed Karen Fulton, previously a partner at HARPER MACLEOD, as head of residential property to its Glasgow office.

BRODIES LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, announces the election of Nick Scott, head of its real estate practice, as managing partner, succeeding Bill Drummond, who steps down on 30 April 2018 after 20 years as managing partner.

BURNESS PAULL LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, announces that Stuart Murdoch has been promoted to partner, and will lead a newly combined Financial Services Regulatory & Disputes team.

CAREY HUGHES, Hamilton, has been established by Emma Hughes and Martin Carey, both formerly of SCULLION LAW, Hamilton, who will be its two directors. They are joined by Natalie Taylor, solicitor, also formerly with Scullion Law. HARPER MACLEOD, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Lerwick, has announced three new associates in its private client team: Lindsay MacEwen (neé Watson, right), who joins from BRODIES LLP, and Samantha Taylor (based in Inverness) and Kathleen Martin (based in Glasgow), who have both been promoted from assistant within the firm.

Harper Macleod has also announced the appointment of Stewart MacGregor, most recently a partner with KIPPEN CAMPBELL, Perth, as a partner based in its Lerwick office. His arrival comes after Chris Dowle stepped down as a partner in the firm into a consultancy role at the end of 2017.

IRWIN MITCHELL, Glasgow and elsewhere, has announced the promotion of personal injury lawyer David Bell to senior associate, and of John Di Paolo from the business’s debt recovery subsidiary, ASCENT, to associate.

Cath Karlin, formerly a partner with BTO SOLICITORS, Glasgow, is delighted to announce that she has set up her own boutique, specialist family law practice in Edinburgh and Glasgow trading as CATH KARLIN FAMILY LAW.

LEDINGHAM CHALMERS, Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Stirling, has appointed as partners Laura Petrie and Uisdean Vass, who have rejoined the firm from WOMBLE BOND DICKINSON to launch a new Exploration & Production practice. Mr Vass has taken up the newly-created head of oil and gas position. Laura Edmunds, formerly with ETHOSENERGY, Aberdeen, joins the Commercial Litigation team in Aberdeen as a senior solicitor.

LINDSAYS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and North Berwick, announces the appointment of David Dunsire, previously a consultant with SHEPHERD & WEDDERBURN, as a consultant to its Corporate team in Edinburgh.

Lindsays also announces the appointment of Bruce Battersby, who joins from MITCHELLS ROBERTON, as a senior solicitor in its private client team in Glasgow; and that, with effect from 13 January 2018, Derek Petrie ceased to be a partner of the firm.

Rod McKenzie has retired from HARPER MACLEOD LLP but has been appointed by the SCOTTISH PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE as legal counsel to the SPFL, joining it in a part-time in-house capacity, working with a panel of external legal advisers.

McSHERRY HALLIDAY, Kilmarnock, Irvine & Troon, are pleased to announce the promotion of Catherine Morrow to associate of the firm with effect from 8 January 2018.

MITCHELLS ROBERTON, Glasgow, announce the promotion of Joyce Moss to associate in their Commercial Property team with effect from 1 January 2018.

MORTON FRASER, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, has appointed Joanne Cruickshank as legal director in its Residential Property team. She was most recently a partner at PAGAN OSBORNE.

PARIS STEELE WS, North Berwick, Dunbar and Haddington are delighted to announce the promotion of Fiona Watson as a partner, leading their Haddington office, with effect from 1 February 2018. Lorraine Bell has joined the firm’s conveyancing team in their North Berwick office as an assistant solicitor.

RAEBURN CHRISTIE CLARK & WALLACE, Aberdeen, Banchory, Ellon, Inverurie and Stonehaven, announces that Peter Littlejohn has retired from the partnership with effect from 1 December 2017, but will continue to work with the firm as solicitor advocate and consultant. The firm has also made three solicitor appointments in its private client team: Michael Kusznir, who joins from CLAPHAMS, Glasgow, and Fiona Mackintosh, who moves from the Stonehaven branch, in its main Aberdeen office; and Gillian Smith in the Banchory branch.

RESTITUTION, the litigation funder, has appointed Frances Sim, previously with MACROBERTS LLP, as general counsel to its Edinburgh office.

SCOTT ALEXANDER, Montrose, announce the appointment of Ross Stirling as an associate.

SHOOSMITHS, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has announced two appointments to its Real Estate and Corporate teams in Edinburgh: Emily McQueen joins the Corporate team from TURCAN CONNELL; and Lauren Gibson, previously with R & R URQUHART LLP, Forres, becomes a solicitor in Shoosmiths’ Real Estate practice.

STIRLING DUNLOP, Hamilton, and BAKER GOSTELOW FAMILY LAW, Blantyre, have announced the merger of the two practices. Both office addresses, phone numbers and website details will remain as they are, but both offices will now provide a full range of legal services.

STRONACHS, Aberdeen and Inverness, announces that Neil Forbes has succeeded David Rennie as managing partner. Mr Rennie, managing partner for the last 15 years, becomes the firm’s first chairman while also continuing with his corporate client work. Mr Forbes also remains head of Stronachs’ Corporate department.

THOMPSONS, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Galashiels, has appointed Alan Rodgers as a partner in its Glasgow office. He joins from DRUMMOND MILLER.

THORNTONS, Dundee and elsewhere, has promoted associate Lorna Goodfellow to partner in its Private Client department.

URQUHARTS, solicitors, Edinburgh are pleased to announce that Sara Smith has been assumed as a partner in its private client department, with effect from 1 January 2018. She joins the firm from SHOOSMITHS, together with Neil McNab, trust and executry manager.

A C WHITE, Ayr announce the retirement of Thomas Elder Shaw as partner with effect from 31 December 2017. He will continue to assist the firm as consultant from that date.

WRIGHT, JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE LLP, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Dunblane, has made two new associate appointments to its Inverness office: Paul Adams, formerly a senior associate at STRONACHS, joins the Commercial Property team; and JP Campbell, who moves from MURCHISON LAW, joins the Private Client team.
