Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

BALFOUR+MANSON, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, announce the retirement of their partner and former chairman Fred Tyler, who has spent his entire 45-year career with the firm.

BRODIES LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dingwall, has promoted six new partners: in Aberdeen, Leigh Gould (personal and family), Rhona McFarlane (oil & gas) and Fiona Herrell (employment), and in Edinburgh Lucy McCann and Chris Duff (litigation) and Graeme Leith (real estate).

Twenty-three senior solicitors have been promoted to associate: Caroline Sodersten and Chris McFarlane (both corporate & commercial, Aberdeen), Lesley McKenzie, Hamish Blair and Rachael Brown (all corporate & commercial), Edinburgh, Fiona Chute, Andy Groom, James Jerman and Andrew McWhirter (all litigation, Edinburgh), Sarah Polson and Jane Rattray (both litigation, Aberdeen), Ross Campbell (litigation, Glasgow), Chloe Fitzgerald (personal & family, Aberdeen), Caroline Purvis (personal & family, Edinburgh), Karen Barclay (real estate, Dingwall), Victoria Lane (real estate, Edinburgh), Catriona Heggie, Bruce Ewan and Giulia De Marco (all real estate, Glasgow), Heather Clinton and Kirsty Graham (both real estate, Edinburgh), and Graeme Imrie and Kirsten MacRae (both real estate, Aberdeen). In addition, oil & gas lawyer Laura Petrie joins the Aberdeen office as legal director from LEDINGHAM CHALMERS, and solicitor advocate Jamie Reekie joins the firm’s advocacy practice as an associate from BTO SOLICITORS.

BTO SOLICITORS LLP, Glasgow and Edinburgh, has appointed Jacqueline McCluskey as a partner in the Employment Law team, based in the Edinburgh office.

BURNESS PAULL LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, has appointed Andrew Forsyth (insurance litigation and shipping law), who joins from BRODIES, as a partner, and Alasdair Sutherland, advocate, as head of the Planning department. He will be assumed as a partner when he is readmitted as a solicitor. The firm has also appointed Iain Miller, formerly senior construction lawyer for BATTERSEA POWER STATION DEVELOPMENT CO LTD, as a senior associate.

CLYDE & CO, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has promoted Edinburgh-based casualty lawyer Andrew Tolmie to legal director.

JAMES & GEORGE COLLIE LLP, Aberdeen (incorporating KINNEAR & FALCONER, Stonehaven) announces the promotion of Steven Allan to associate.

COULTERS LEGAL LLP, Edinburgh, has promoted director Joanne Cruickshank to partner.

GEBBIE & WILSON LLP, Strathaven, announces that partner Russell Paterson retired on 31 March 2019 after 14 years with the firm.

LINDA GEORGE FAMILY LAW LTD, Hamilton, announces the appointment of Margaret Carlin, solicitor, as a consultant to the firm.

GILSON GRAY, Edinburgh, Glasgow and North Berwick, has promoted Sally Nash to partner in the Family Law team and John Fulton to partner in the Real Estate department.

McDOUGALL McQUEEN, Edinburgh, Dalkeith, Penicuik and Gorebridge, announces that property solicitor Donald Towsey has joined from McEWAN FRASER LEGAL.

McGREEVY & CO LTD, Glasgow, announces Umar Hussain’s promotion to associate solicitor.

MACNABS LLP, Perth, Pitlochry, Blairgowrie and Aberuthven, has appointed Stewart Baillie as its director of Property. He joins from ANDERSONS, Kinross.

MACROBERTS LLP, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee, has promoted two new partners: James Keith (pensions) and Lisa Maguire (banking).

MANOLETE PARTNERS PLC, an insolvency litigation financing company, has appointed Rachel Grant to lead its Scottish practice. She joins from BRODIES LLP.

MELLICKS solicitors, Glasgow are delighted to announce that Scot Dickson, formerly of LOW BEATON RICHMOND LLP, has joined the firm as a senior solicitor with effect from 29 April 2019, dealing with commercial and residential conveyancing, and private client.

MILLER SAMUEL HILL BROWN, Glasgow has promoted Eilidh McGuire to associate within the firm’s Licensing division.

MORGANS, Dunfermline and Kinross, announces that private client associate Lynsey Rintoul has been assumed as partner in its Dunfermline office from 1 April 2019. Associate solicitor Sylvia Flynn joined in Kinross on 4 March 2019, dealing with commercial and residential conveyancing. 

PINSENT MASONS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has announced the promotion of four Scottish lawyers from senior associate to legal director: Susannah Donaldson (employment), Elaine MacGregor (investment funds) and Katherine Metcalfe (health and safety litigation), all Glasgow, and in Edinburgh, Pamela Gilmour (banking and finance).

THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT LEGAL DIRECTORATE has appointed Ruaraidh Macniven as its new director with effect from 17 June 2019. He was previously head of the Advisory & Legislation Division at the OFFICE OF THE ADVOCATE GENERAL. 

SHEPHERD & WEDDERBURN LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and London, has appointed partner Yvonne Brady as its head of Diversity, Development and Inclusion.

SHOOSMITHS, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has announced the promotion to partner of Sheelagh Cooley (real estate finance), and to senior associate of Jen Paton (corporate). Barry McKeown (residential development and investment) has also joined as a partner from GUNNERCOOKE, London.

Natasha Brownlee has joined the Edinburgh office as a managing associate in the Banking & Financial Services team, from the SAINSBURY’S BANK & ARGOS FINANCIAL SERVICES GROUP.
