Andrew Yule, previously with BURNESS PAULL, has joined the Commercial Property team as legal director, and Heather Clark has joined the Dispute Resolution team as an associate.
GILSON GRAY LLP, Glasgow, Edinburgh and North Berwick, has promoted Lorna Davidson to associate and Iain Grant to senior solicitor in Litigation & Dispute Resolution, and Shona Young to senior solicitor in the Family Law team. Gilson Gray has also appointed Denise Laverty, dual qualified and an accredited family law specialist, as a legal director. She joins from BTO SOLICITORS.
HARPER MACLEOD LLP, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Thurso and Lerwick, has acquired the business of WINK & MACKENZIE, solicitors, Elgin. Partners Ian Davidson and Lauren Wright and their 15 staff will become part of Harper Macleod from 2 September 2019. Partner Damian Marinello will join Harper Macleod as a consultant. The firm will retain its Elgin premises and in Moray will initially operate as HARPER MACLEOD INCORPORATING WINK & MACKENZIE.
HASTINGS LEGAL, Kelso, Selkirk and Duns, announces the amalgamation of DOUGHTYS WS, Eyemouth, with the firm. The combined practice will operate from the existing premises at 3 & 7 Church Street, Eyemouth. Doughtys’ sole partner, Marina Kerr, will remain at the office.
Robbie McKenzie has been appointed to general counsel and chief risk and compliance officer at LENDINGCROWD, a fintech lending platform. Dual qualified in Scotland and England, he joins from private equity fund manager POLLEN STREET CAPITAL.
Michelle Macleod, solicitor, has been appointed as the new Police Investigations and Review Commissioner. Currently HM Chief Inspector for the Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland, she will take up her new role on 17 August 2019.

RAEBURN CHRISTIE CLARK & WALLACE, Aberdeen, Ellon, Stonehaven, Inverurie and Banchory, has announced the retirement of Anne Boyd, Barbara Calderwood and Pamela Bursill as partners in the firm with effect from 30 April 2019. They are delighted that all will be remaining with the firm as consultants. Keith Allan retired as the firm’s managing partner at the same time, after eight years in the role and almost 40 years as partner. His successor in the role is Callum A McDonald, who has also been with the firm for almost 40 years.
RAEBURN HOPE, Helensburgh has become part of BTO SOLICITORS LLP from 1 July 2019 and will be known as BTO RAEBURN HOPE. Partners Alastair Hope and Kirstine MacRae have become partners in BTO, and their personnel have joined the BTO team.
THORNTONS LAW LLP, Dundee and elsewhere, has opened a new office at 1 West Regent Street, Glasgow G2 1RW. Partners Hugo Allan (commercial property), Pamela Muir (insolvency) and Liam McMonagle (intellectual property, media and technology) will now split their time between Thorntons’ Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. Working alongside them will be Gurjit Pall (immigration and visas), Aimee Gibbons and Richard Duffy (commercial property), and Iain Boyd, a trainee in business law. Thorntons’ Arbroath office has marked the retirement of partner George Dunlop and associate David Dundas, following a combined 82 years’ service to the firm.
TURCAN CONNELL, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, announces that Alexander Garden, previously head of Tax & Succession, has taken over as chairman on 1 July 2019 from Simon Mackintosh, who remains with the firm as a consultant. Partner Alix Storrie steps up to Mr Garden’s former position.
