New President for Law Society
The Law Society of Scotland’s new President, Caroline Flanagan, will take up her position today.
Caroline, who is a partner with Ross & Connel in Dunfermline, takes over from Duncan Murray. She joined the Society’s Council in 1998 before going on to serve as Convener of a number of committees, including Education & Training, Admissions and Civil Procedure.
Looking forward to her year in office, Caroline said: “It’s an honour for me to have been elected. The presidency is a fantastic opportunity to promote the interests of the public and solicitors' profession in Scotland.”
“These are interesting times for the legal profession and the clients we serve. Fundamental decisions have to be made on a number of issues, by all those with an interest in the Society and its functions. Communication will be important, and I intend to make sure that all the representative voices are heard in the year ahead.”
Supporting Caroline will be Ruthven Gemmell, who has been elected as Vice President. Ruthven is a partner and Head of Asset Management at Murray Beith Murray, in Edinburgh.
