Partner appointments for Anderson Strathern

Anderson Strathern has appointed two new partners - commercial litigation specialist Frank Gill and Fiona Killen, who heads the firm's parliamentary and public law unit.

The total number of partners in the firm is now up to 38.

Ms Killen has an extensive knowledge of public regulatory law, parliamentary procedure and standards, and human rights. She has worked in the Scottish Parliament, the UK Parliament and the US Senate.

Her current role as head of parliamentary and public law involves advising promoters of multi-million pound transport projects on private legislation procedures, providing opinions on statutory interpretation, and advising clients on public law matters including freedom of information, public sector regulation and investigations into complaints about MSPs and public bodies.

Frank Gill specialises in commercial litigation and has appeared in sheriff courts throughout Scotland, as well as dealing with commercial actions at the Court of Session.

His other main practice area is sports law, and he has advised a range of clients in this field, including a number of national sporting bodies and individual athletes. He recently graduated with an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Strathclyde.

Anderson Strathern's chairman Robert Carr said: “Our parliamentary and public law unit was the first of its kind in Scotland and has worked on some of the Scottish Parliament’s biggest bills. The complex and high profile nature of the work that Fiona and her colleagues carry out thoroughly merit her promotion to partner.

“In the past 18 months, our corporate practice has completed over 100 deals with a combined value of approximately £800m. Frank and his team provide specialist advice day in and day out and his promotion to partner recognises the significant growth in this area of our practice."
