McConnachie is Principal Advocate Depute

12 October 2006

The Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC, has appointed Brian McConnachie QC to the post of Principal Advocate Depute with immediate effect.

An advocate depute since 2002, Mr McConnachie was called to the bar in 1993 before taking silk in 2005.

He succeeds John Beckett QC, the new Solicitor General for Scotland.

Mrs Angiolini said: "Brian is a highly experienced senior advocate depute and I have every faith that he will, with the help of Assistant Principal Advocate Depute Dorothy Bain, ably lead Crown counsel as we continue to make a significant and important contribution to Scotland's criminal justice system."
