Extra week for training responses

Solicitors, law students and interested members of the public have until 16 February, two weeks from today, to give their views on the future education and training of lawyers in Scotland via the Law Society of Scotland's website.

The original 9 February deadline has been extended by one week, to encourage those taking part to comment as fully as possible on the various options proposed.

The questionnaire is structured so that those taking part can answer at a general level or go into particular aspects in more detail.

Liz Campbell, Director of Education and Training at the Society, said that those who had already responded included MPs and MEPs, citizens advice workers, education experts, clients, advocates, judges and ordinary members of the public, as well as many solicitors.

She added: "We'd particularly like to see more responses from private practice and in-house lawyers and would like more MSPs to rise to the challenge of helping shape the future of the legal profession.

"The consultation, and ultimately the public and the profession, will benefit from including as many different views as possible."

The consultation can be accessed at www.lawscot.org.uk/training/consult .
