Maclay Murray in move for Iain Smith & Co

Maclay Murray & Spens has confirmed that it is in merger talks with Aberdeen-based Iain Smith & Co.

MMS chief executive Magnus Swanson confirmed that discussions were ongoing and that the firm continued to look at ways to enhance the services available for its Aberdeen office, which opened over three years ago.

Iain Smith & Co has offices in Aberdeen and Stonehaven. Founded in 1975, it offers advice in corporate and business services, commercial litigation, debt recovery, employment law, insolvency law, house buying and selling, and wills and executries.

The move would strengthen Maclays' presence in the energy sector. A year ago rival giant McGrigors acquired the energy practice of Ledingham Chalmers.

Roy Roxburgh of Iain Smith & Co said that his firm was hopeful the discussions would have a positive outcome for all those involved.
