Award for Harper Macleod's chief executive

Martin Darroch, Harper Macleod LLP's chief executive, has won a top prize at the annual Bank of Scotland Finance Director of the Year awards.

He has been named as "Young Finance Director of the Year" - the first time an individual from a professional services firm has been presented with an award at this event, which took place at a ceremony in Glasgow on Friday 23 February.

The awards, run by ASA International, the recruitment consultancy, with CA Magazine as media sponsor, honour the outstanding contribution and effort made by finance directors towards the overall success of their organisation.

Mr Darroch (32) joined Harper Macleod as finance director in 2002 and became chief executive in September 2006.

The firm's chairman Professor Lorne Crerar said: "We are all absolutely delighted that Martin’s achievements for the firm have been recognised with this award."

The other awards went to Ron Sylvester of the Scottish Qualifications Authority in the public/not-for-profit category, and Dean Finch of First Group in the corporate category.
