The Court of Session and High Court Judge Lord Dawson has died at the age of 58.

Elevated to the bench in 1995 at the age of 46, making him one of Scotland's youngest ever judges at the time, Thomas Dawson graduated from Edinburgh University and lectured at Dundee University before joining the Faculty of Advocates in 1973. He became a QC in 1986 and served as counsel to the Piper Alpha inquiry before becoming Solicitor General for Scotland in 1992.
