"No smoking" rules extend to England & Wales
The whole of the UK and Ireland now bans smoking in enclosed public places after legislation came into force in England & Wales yesterday.
Health Secretary Alan Johnston claimed that almost 80% of the public supported the ban, which affects offices, factories, pubs, cafes, railway stations and working vehicles.
A few pubs defied the new rules, and the Freedom2Choose campaign group began proceedings in the High Court last week, claiming infringement of the right to peaceful enjoyment of their possessions under the Human Rights Act.
