Extra string to Gillespie Macandrew

The Edinburgh law firm Gillespie Macandrew has a new financial services division.

The launch of Gillespie Macandrew Financial Services Ltd aims to broaden the firm’s existing financial services offering into specialist mortgage advice and pensions, while complementing the private client department’s estate planning, tax planning, trust management and investment capabilities.

Keith Barron and Bob Wilson, with over 30 years' financial service experience between them, have been hired to front the new arm of the business and will be based at the company’s Atholl Crescent headquarters.

Tom Murray, head of Private Client at Gillespie Macandrew, said: “We’re already dealing with clients' investment portfolios, and the ability to advise on pension transfers, for example, is the logical next step. This holistic approach allows us to help clients use their assets and tax allowances to their best abilities.

“It also matches our ambitions in the Edinburgh property market. Last year we merged with Hunters, the residential estate agents, and now we’re equipped to give independent mortgage advice. We firmly believe that the future of our industry lies in this one-stop shop approach.”

It has also been announced that the firm is acquiring the practice of Haig Scott, a three-partner Edinburgh firm.

In recent years, Gillespie Macandrew has merged with Garden Haig, Bennett & Robertson and Menzies Dougal as well as Hunters. Turnover has grown from around £3m in 2003 to over £9m.
