Edinburgh lawyer's marathon cycle challenge

An Edinburgh lawyer is about to embark on a 650-mile cycle challenge across Scotland to raise money for a kids' street football project.

Kenny Cumming, 49, a partner in city law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn, will take to two wheels tomorrow, 7 July, for a tour of the 14 Scottish golf courses recently included in the top 40 of Golf World magazine's Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses in Britain & Ireland.

His journey will begin at Royal Dornoch, the most northerly course, heading south to the number one course, Turnberry, visiting the other 12 courses in between.

The charity Kids in the Street (KITS) mobile football project, which aims to provide a positive alternative to antisocial behaviour for young people in Edinburgh, will receive all of the sponsorship money Mr Cumming raises.

Mr Cumming said: "For a long time I have had concerns about the serious and very worrying health and welfare problems amongst young people growing up in deprived communities throughout Scotland in which drug and alcohol abuse, youth crime, vandalism, antisocial behaviour and teenage obesity are rife.

"I passionately believe that sport can have a massively positive impact on the lives of young people facing these problems, if only they can be given opportunities to become involved."
