Commonwealth law ministers meet in Scotland

The Lord Advocate will welcome law ministers from all over the Commonwealth for a meeting in Edinburgh next week.

This will be the first time that Scotland has hosted the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting and the gathering will take place from Monday 7 to Thursday 10 July.

The ministers, from 40 countries, will be discussing signficant issues such as overcrowding in prisons, counter-terrorism, juvenile justice, human trafficking and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.

Highlights of the meeting include a high-level ministerial panel discussion which will focus on the theme of the meeting: "The developing role of the Justice Minister in light of the challenges facing the rule of law in the Commonwealth."

The official opening ceremony will take place at 6pm on 7 July at the Scottish Parliament.
