Laura McPherson (32) appointed district fiscal to Greenock and Rothesay

Laura McPherson has been appointed to the post of district procurator fiscal for Greenock and Rothesay – one of the youngest people in Scotland to hold such a post.

Ms McPherson, 32, joined the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service 10 years ago as a trainee solicitor and worked for two years in the Crown Office in Edinburgh, and the procurator fiscal’s office in Ayr. She also worked as a procurator fiscal depute in Kilmarnock and was seconded to the procurator fiscal’s office in Hamilton to work as part of the team investigating and prosecuting Transco for the Larkhall gas explosion in 1999.

The Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini said: "[Laura] has the respect of her colleagues and a drive and enthusiasm for the role which will make her a great asset to the existing team in Greenock.

“Although we already have effective relationships in place with our criminal justice partners in the area, we can never be complacent, and Laura will build on those to assist us in delivering justice and bring benefits to the local communities."
