An advocate and former solicitor has been appointed the new President of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland.
Dr Joe Morrow has worked in the private, public and voluntary sectors. He is currently a Labour councillor with Dundee City Council and a board member of the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration, and has been a convener with the tribunal since 2005. The part-time appointment is for five years and will run until October 2013.
The mental health tribunal looks into the long-term compulsory care and treatment of those suffering from mental health disorders.
Minister for Public Health Shona Robison: "Dr Joe Morrow has shown strong commitment to public service and has demonstrated a clear understanding of the issues being faced within the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland. His wealth of experience and knowledge will be extremely valuable, and I look forward to working with him in addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead."
