Society proposes new finance committee and nomination groups

3 November 2008

The Law Society of Scotland is to establish a new finance committee and nominations working group.

At a meeting of the Society’s council on Friday, the plans for the new committee and group were discussed and agreed as the first stage of reform of the Society’s structures and processes, part of the ongoing governance review.

The finance committee will support the work of the treasurer and help to deliver the Society’s financial strategy and objectives with effective and efficient use of resources.

A proposal to establish a nominations committee to take a lead on committee and convener appointments was amended to permit further work on its remit. The matter will be brought back to council members in December to allow an extensive debate on the detailed governance proposals.

Members stressed the importance of ensuring any future system was transparent and democratic.
