Warners sees signs of improvement in slump

10 November 2008

The Edinburgh solicitor and estate agency firm Warners has reported house sales down by almost half in the past six weeks, compared to the same period last year.

In that time Warners sold 66 properties - between 9 and 13 a week - compared to 125 in 2007, when it was selling more than 20 a week. However Warners says the market is improving, as during the summer figures were as low as seven properties a week.

Scott Brown, estate agency partner, said recent figures from the ESPC showed that 75% of fixed price properties were being sold at below their advertised price, and buyers had the chance of a bargain. He was confident that the market would improve because sales had increased since the summer.
