McGrigors demotes 10 in review

McGrigors, a national law firm with offices in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland, has taken up to 10 of its partners out of those entitled to profit sharing following its annual review of partner performance, it was reported yesterday.

The changes affect unnamed individuals spread across all five of the firm's offices. McGrigors have emphasised they were not a consequence of the economic situation but were part of a routine assessment. Some high achievers have also been made up to equity partner.

Before the review, carried out over a six month period, 49 of McGrigors' 82 partners held equity status.

Managing partner Kirk Murdoch said the moves were in line with standard legal firm practice. Such demotions and promotions have become common in the bigger City of London firms.
