Glasgow JP court replaces district courts from Monday

5 Dec 08

Kirkintilloch and Rutherglen buildings close for new single court

Court unification comes to Glasgow on Monday as the city's justice of the peace court opens, replacing the three district courts currently serving the sheriff court district.

The transfer is part of the rolling programme of court unification under the summary justice reforms which has already come into effect in Lothian & Borders, and Grampian, Highland & Islands.

From 8 December all functions of Glasgow, Rutherglen and Kirkintilloch District Courts will be transferred to the JP court, which will be located at 21 St Andrew's Street, Glasgow G1 5PW (tel 0141 418 5832). Fines and financial penalties transferred to, or registered for enforcement in, the district courts must be sent to the JP court, and all enquiries relating to summary criminal business should be referred there.
