Drop in DTTOs "disappointing"
The Scottish Government has said it is disappointed by a fall in drug treatment and testing orders (DTTOs) in the last year.
Ministers have ordered an inquiry into the drop, from 696 DTTOs in 2006-07 to 601 in 2007-08, especially as DTTOs are seen as a major part of their "Road to Recovery" drugs strategy.
in July 2007 ministers announced that DTTOs would be introduced for lower tariff offenders, having previously been used as an alternative to custody. The orders were seen as having an impact in cutting reoffending rates.
A Government spokesman said the reduction in the use of DTTOs by the court was disappointing and that chief officers had been asked to investigate what was happening in their own community justice authority areas.
