Floating sheriff appointment

23 January 2009

Andrew Mackie has been appointed as an all-Scotland floating sheriff based in Glasgow.

Mr Mackie, 45, will have a commission enabling him to serve where required throughout Scotland's sheriff courts, but in practice he is expected to sit mostly in the Sheriffdom of Glasgow and Strathkelvin.

A graduate of Glasgow University, Mr Mackie was admitted as a solicitor in 1987. He has been a partner with Paisley firm Mackie Thomson & Co (formerly known as Andrew Mackie & Co) since 1997 and was appointed as a part-time sheriff in 2006. He is also a legally qualified panel member chairing social security appeal tribunals, and a member of the Law Society of Scotland's family law subcommittee.
