Highland firm opens Edinburgh office
A law firm from the far north of Scotland is extending its practice to Edinburgh with the opening of a new office.
Drever & Heddle, which currently has offices in Kirkwall, Thurso and Fraserburgh, opens today (14 June) at 9-10 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
The new office will focus on providing high quality, bespoke, advice and representation in the areas of commercial litigation, corporate insolvency, Court of Session litigation, corporate advice and property disputes.
The office will be headed by Alasdair Baijal, who joins as an associate having previously worked at Dundee firm Miller Hendry.
Head of litigation at Drever & Heddle, partner Eric Baijal said: “It became clear to us that in order to service our Court of Session work more effectively, we required to establish a presence on the ground. Although initially a small office, we see opening in Edinburgh as a route into new markets, while retaining our Highland values."
He added: "These are tough times for the profession but we do not see the new office as a particular risk. It is the logical extension from where our business has already developed.”
Drever & Heddle has developed its litigation practice in recent years and now boasts one of the largest litigation teams outside the major cities. Managing partner Archie Millar said: "Since deciding to move the firm into the area of high quality litigation it has been a joy seeing the team develop. I question if there is a younger, more enthusiastic and able team outwith the major centres.
"Although the move into the heart of the Scotish Legal System is a natural one for us, even as a provincial firm, it is an exciting development by any standards and all the more so at a time when the profession at large is more focused on survival than growth."
