All-Scotland floating sheriff appointed
The Queen has appointed Mr William Summers, solicitor advocate, as an all-Scotland floating sheriff based in Stirling.
First Minister Alex Salmond nominated Mr Summers for appointment on the basis of a report by the independent Judicial Appointments Board.
A graduate of the University of Aberdeen, Mr Summers was admitted as a solicitor in 1983 and as a solicitor advocate in 2003. Since 1994 he has specialised in civil litigation with Aberdeen firm Davies Wood Summers, of which he is a founding partner. He is also a commercial mediator accredited with the Law Society of Scotland.
Mr Summers will have a commission enabling him to serve where required throughout Scotland's sheriff courts. It is likely that he will take up his appointment in September 2010.
