Senior appointments at Burness

Burness Solicitors has announced two senior promotions in its staff.

Walter Clark is assumed as partner in its corporate finance team with effect from 1 August 2010. Mr Clark trained with Burness and has been responsible for developing a number of the firm’s key corporate clients, including Standard Life plc. His appointment coincides with a sustained period of significant deal activity and a number of major new client wins for the firm.

Diane Turner is promoted to director in the firm’s health and safety team, also from 1 August. A former procurator fiscal depute, Ms Turner has played an important role in the recent growth of the Burness health and safety practice. She has been engaged in a number of major public inquiries throughout Scotland and is an important driver in the development of the firm’s corporate defence practice, an area of increasing importance to clients with the advent of the Bribery Act 2010.

Firm chairman Philip Rodney said: “These are two important appointments for Burness. Both Walter and Diane demonstrate our commitment to excellence through an impeccable execution in their respective practice areas and underpin what we strive for in our brand. We are committed to investing in sectors where we recognise the potential for growth and Walter and Diane will play an important part in developing our corporate finance and health and safety practices respectively.”
