Over-65s to serve on Scottish juries

A legal limit preventing people aged over 65 from serving as jurors in Scotland has been lifted, under provisions of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act, passed in June last year. The age restriction, in place since 1980, had been criticised as “ageist” by Scottish ministers, who argued the extra life experience offered by those over 65 has a valuable part to play in the justice system.
