Lord President appointment procedure announced
The process to appoint the next Lord President of the Court of Session will begin in the new year, the Scottish Government has disclosed.
A selction panel to recommend a successor to Lord Hamilton, who will retire in June 2012, has been named by First Minister Alex Salmond.
Chaired by Sir Muir Russell, chair of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, it also comprises Professor Andrew Coyle, a lay member of the JAB, and Court of Session judges Lord Hardie of the Inner House and Lady Dorrian of the Outer House.
The panel has agreed that the office of Lord President will be advertised on 4 January 2012 with a closing date for applications of 31 January 2012. A sift of applications will take place on 10 February with interviews following on 23 and 24 February 2012.
