Aberdeen solicitor caught with child porn

21 September 2012

An Aberdeen solicitor was given three years' probation yesterday after admitting the downloading of indecent images of children.

Daniel Meakin (26), a former corporate litigation lawyer with Aberdein Considine & Co, was found with 117 indecent images and two videos on his home computer two years ago. Most of the images were in the lowest of five categories of seriousness, but six were at level four, the second most serious.

Meakin's computer was linked to websites under investigatoin by Interpol in Luxembourg.

A first offender, Meakin was dismissed from his firm after the offences came to light and is currently unemployed. His solicitor, Mike Munro, told the court he risked being struck off by the Law Society of Scotland and his career was "in tatters".
