ABA Past President to give SYLA lecture
25 September 2012
The immediate Past President of the American Bar Association, William T Robinson III, is to be the guest speaker at this year's Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association Annual Lecture, which takes place on Tuesday 9 October 2012 at 7pm at the George Hotel, Edinburgh (note change of time from that previously advertised).
Mr Robinson follows Lord Hope of Craighead who delivered the inaugural lecture in April 2011. The title of his lecture, which is sponsored by Scott + Co, is "Law as a Vocation".
Throughout his career, Mr Robinson has been a highly active volunteer leader in the American Bar Association, holding numerous roles including ABA treasurer, eight years on the board of governors and nine years as Kentucky State delegate on the ABA Nominating Committee. He has also been President of the Kentucky Bar Association, President of the Kentucky Bar Foundation, Founding Chair of Kentucky’s Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) and President of the National Caucus of State Bar Associations, amongst many others.
He is also a proud advocate of pro bono work within the legal profession, having claimed that: “Volunteerism is in our professional souls. It is part of our DNA."
Fiona McAllister, President of the SYLA, said: “We are thrilled that Mr Robinson has agreed to come to Scotland and deliver the second annual lecture. The annual lecture was devised as an opportunity for young lawyers in Scotland to hear from an inspirational leader from the profession. Lord Hope’s lecture reminded our members that we shouldn’t be too insular in our professional outlook, and by bringing a global leader to deliver the second address, we hope that this theme will be continued. We are very grateful to Scott + Co for continuing their generous support of our activities by sponsoring this lecture.”
Attendance at the lecture is free although spaces are limited. The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception for all attendees. Non-SYLA members are welcome. To book your place, go to: http://sylannuallecture2012.eventbrite.com/
