Sheriff appointed for Tayside, Central & Fife
William Murray Wood, a solicitor who has held part-time judicial appointments, has been appointed as a floating sheriff of Tayside, Central and Fife, based at Stirling.
The appointment, by the Queen on the nomination of the First Minister following a report by the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, takes effect from 17 June 2013.
After graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 1985, Mr Wood served as an officer in the Gordon Highlanders before completing his training as a solicitor. He was admitted in 1991 and pursued a general court practice, becoming a partner with J Watson Scott & Co, Hamilton. He became a part-time immigration judge in 2001 and, among other judicial appointments, sits as a deputy judge of the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and as a part-time sheriff.
