In-house head joins HBJ Gateley
HBJ Gateley has recruited a senior associate for their real estate practice from the in-house sector.
Afshan Khan, Scottish head of legal for Gladman group, speculative property developers, has joined HBJ Gateley's Glasgow office. She brings with her Gladman’s portfolio of legal work.
Gladman Group is currently building its strategic land business, which involves partnering with landowners to obtain residential planning consent for their land and market it to housing developers. It currently also has significant interests in commercial land, retirement apartments and an in-house contracting business.
Other senior in-house counsel to have joined HBJ Gateley are former Murray Group company secretary and legal head David Horne, who became a partner in 2011, and Simon Trees, an associate in the firm’s English property team, who joined from Standard Life last month.
Ms Khan said: “HBJ Gateley is a firm which knows how to support the strategic objectives of their clients’ businesses, so the opportunity to take my in-house experience into that environment is tremendously exciting.
“I’m looking forward to taking the deals experience I’ve gained at Gladman into private practice, and using my understanding of being on the client side of the deal table to bring real commercial benefit to HBJ Gateley’s clients.”
Alison Newton, real estate partner and head of Glasgow for HBJ Gateley, said: “Afshan’s track record in successfully leading and executing deals in the pursuit of strategic business objectives is extremely impressive, and she’ll be a strong addition to the real estate team at HBJ Gateley."
