Court clerk avoids jail for indecent image offences
A former senior clerk at the Court of Session was spared a prison sentence yesterday after admitting possession of indecent images of young girls.
Donald Bruton (60) resigned from his post after police raided his Edinburgh home last October and found 16 still pictures and three moving images of girls aged between 10 and 15 on his computer.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that he admitted having been downloading images of children for some time "out of curiosity", and had taken to searching for indecent images.
For the defence it was said that Bruton was deeply ashamed and had lost a lot in his personal and professional life. There was "no possible risk" of his reoffending.
Sheriff Alistair Noble ordered him to carry out 225 hours of supervised community payback work and to register as a sex offender for two years.
