Standstill practising certificate fee to be put to SGM
A standstill practising certificate fee of £550 for 2014-15 is to be put to Scotland's solicitors at the September special general meeting of the Law Society of Scotland.
Today's Council meeting confirmed the move, which is in line with previous statements that the Society hoped to hold the fee at the same level as the past four years.
The non-practising membership fee will however rise by £20 to £180, and the retention fee by £10 to £90. Both these fees are set by Council.
The Society's proposed budget for 2014-15, to be discussed at the SGM, shows a marginal surplus. Council was assured that there is a measure of contingency in the event of unforeseen expenditure.
Guarantee Fund contributions, and the Guarantee Fund accounts fee payable to the Society, will be held at £180 and £400 respectively. The incidental financial services fee will also remain unchanged, at £100 per person.
