QC and solicitor to join Scottish Law Commission

David Johnston QC, and Burness Paull partner Caroline Drummond, have been appointed as commissioners to the Scottish Law Commission, the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Michael Matheson announced today.

Appointed a QC in 2005, Mr Johnston specialises in public and commercial law at the Scottish bar. From 1993-1999 he was Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Cambridge, and since 2000 he has been an honorary professor at Edinburgh Law School. His publications include Prescription and Limitation (2nd ed, 2012) and other books and articles on Roman law, Scots law and legal history.

Ms Drummond has been a solicitor in private practice for 32 years, and a partner in Burness, and subsequently Burnesss Paull, for 27 years. She has extensive experience of property law, having focused on property development, investment and commercial leasing work with a broad spectrum of clients in both the private and public sectors. She is also a recognised expert in the field of commercial property.

Both appointments are for five years, Mr Johnston's from 26 January 2015 and Ms Drummond's from 2 February 2015. Mr Johnston will work half of full time hours, while Ms Drummond's appointment is full time.
