Sunday deadline for Tumbling Lassie Ball bookings
The deadline is approaching to book tickets for The Tumbling Lassie Ball.
Supported by the Faculty of Advocates and organised by a numnber of its members, the ball is being held to raise funds for two charities, International Justice Mission and TARA, working to combat human trafficking and modern slavery and to support victims of the practices. The name "Tumbling Lassie" commemorates a 1687 Court of Session decision that rejected the claim of the proprietor of a travelling show to "ownership" of a young performing gymnast whom he claimed to have bought from her mother.
The ball is on Saturday 28 January, in St Paul’s and St George’s Church, York Place, Edinburgh, with a three-course dinner included in the price of £65 per ticket. Tickets must be booked by Sunday 15 January.
Generous prizes have been donated for a raffle, and the organisers would welcome offers of further prizes or sponsorship.
Also on 28 January, from 9.30am-12.30pm, an associated seminar (2.5 hours' CPD) in the Faculty’s Mackenzie Building will feature guest speakers Alison Di Rollo, QC, Solicitor General for Scotland, and Parosha Chandran, a human rights barrister and expert on human trafficking.
