Two new Court of Session judges appointed
Sheriff Paul Arthurson QC and Alan Summers QC are to be the latest additions to the Court of Session and High Court bench, the Scottish Government announced today.
The Queen has appointed the two new Senators of the College of Justice on the recommendation of the First Minister, to whom the names were put forward by the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.
Sheriff Arthurson was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1991 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2005, in which year he also became a sheriff. He currently sits in the Sheriff Appeal Court and the National Personal Injury Court, and also as a temporary judge in the Court of Session.
Mr Summers, the current treasurer of the Faculty of Advocates and a former chairman of Faculty Services Ltd, was admitted in 1994 and took silk in 2008. He has served as a special counsel to the UK Government since 2007.
The appointments will take effect on dates to be agreed by the Lord President.
