Chair named for Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland
Nicola Gordon has been appointed lay chairing member to the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.
Ms Gordon spent many years living and working abroad for Shell and the international oil and gas business. A chartered engineer, she has developed and implemented strategy, partnered with government in Denmark and Norway and led business improvement programme.
Since returning to Scotland, she has also become chair of the Strategy Advisory Board at Heriot-Watt University’s Institute of Petroleum Engineering, and a director of Arts & Business Scotland, Edinburgh Printmakers and the Scottish Oil Club.
The 12-strong board is made up of six legal and six lay members, with the chair being held by one of the latter. It recommends individuals for appointment to judicial offices including judge of the Court of Session, sheriff principal, sheriff, and summary sheriff.
Ms Gordon's appointment is for four years from 1 May 2017 to 30 April 2021. It attracts a remuneration of £350 per day for a time commitment of around 50 days per year.
