Launch of an internet-based networking and discussion forum for the legal profession
Gordon Brewster, Director of IT at The Law Society of Scotland, and Lindsay Bannerman, Director of NewBusinessVoice, last month launched ScottishLegalVoice, a new initiative for the members and the legal profession.
ScottishLegalVoice (SLV) provides on-line Internet-based discussion forums which will be set up and hosted by NewBusinessVoice (NBV) for the Society.
SLV is a private web-based discussion forum, online networking facility and ideal way of enhancing communications within the profession. It is easy to use. Customised and secure forums are provided for the Society so participants can communicate with confidence.
In the first instance SLV is for IT professionals working in firms and solicitors who have an IT element as part of their job or have an IT interest.
Currently six forums have been set up for SLV, these are:
- Lawseal
- Data Protection
- Business Continuity
- Digital Dictation
- E-commerce committee
- General
There is capacity to expand ScottishLegalVoice to reflect members’ needs and interests as demand dictates. For example, there could be an opportunity to provide a forum for Society committees, In-House Lawyers and other groups. A forum could be established for sole practitioners to enable them to communicate, collaborate and share information in a highly effective and efficient way.
The Society will manage SLV through a dedicated project team, which will make changes or add new forums as the project grows and develops. The Society is keen to encourage members to be free to contribute and express their views. Lindsay and her team at NBV provide editorial independence on a day-to-day basis.
Being part of the larger NBV community, members will also have the opportunity to develop working relationships, offer and receive advice on a variety of business matters and contribute to the NBV public forums. This brings significant benefits as it provides one platform where everyone can learn from each other and share information.
Registration is free in the first year. If you are interested in using the forum or require further information please contact Ellen Wilson at the Society ellenwilson@lawscot.org.uk
