Postgraduate scholarship
21 Sep 04
Stair Society has established a scholarship to promote postgraduate research in the history of Scots law
The scholarship will be tenable in any UK university, subject to the approval of the Stair Society’s Council. An award will initially be made for a period of one year, renewable on report and demonstration of satisfactory progress for up to a further two.
The scholarship will cover fees and maintenance and provide an allowance for research costs. Fees will normally be paid at the current rate for home and EU students, but in exceptional circumstances they may be paid at a higher rate.
Whilst the topic of the thesis must relate to the history of Scots law, it is possible that the award may be held in a history department as an alternative to a law school or faculty. The Stair Society may consider publishing suitable theses following their completion.
Candidates for the award should either hold, or expect to obtain before taking up the award, a good honours degree or equivalent, which will normally be in law or history.
For further information and an application form apply to the Secretary and Treasurer of the Society, c/o Shepherd and Wedderburn WS, Saltire Court, 20 Castle Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2ET.
