Master policy: Society responds

The Society has submitted its response to the Office of Fair Trading, investigating the compatibility of the Master Policy with the Competition Act

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) wrote to the Society on 25 June 2004 enclosing a formal notice under section 26 of the Competition Act 1998 requiring the Society to produce specified documents and provide specified information for the purposes of an investigation under this Act. This formal notification was a follow-up to a letter from the OFT of 20 November 2003 in which the Society was advised that the OFT had received a complaint regarding the operation of the Society’s Master Policy. The OFT’s investigation centres on whether the Master Policy is compatible with the Chapter 1 prohibition of the Competition Act 1998. The Society’s formal response to the OFT was submitted on 4 August 2004. An electronic copy of the response is available from David Cullen, Registrar at davidcullen@lawscot.org.uk .
