Lawyer admits fraudulent tax claims

Dundee solicitor Louise Hay has admitted a £5,000 child care tax credit fraud

Lawyer Louise Hay will face sentence next month after yesterday admitting fraudulently claiming over £5,000 in child care tax credit from the Inland Revenue.

The mother-of-two also admitted forging the signatures of child care providers on tax forms. Hay, who worked for legal firm Simpson and Marwick, committed the offences between January 28 2000 and January 16 2001.

She initially denied fraudulently claiming almost £10,000 but changed her plea yesterday to the new charges. A spokesman for the Law Society of Scotland said: “If a solicitor has a criminal conviction we are notified about it. We will look at the seriousness of the offence then consider our available options.”
