Glasgow gets domestic abuse court
14 Oct 04
The first dedicated court for domestic abuse launches on Monday
The first court dedicated to victims of domestic abuse is to be set up in Glasgow.
Based at Glasgow Sheriff Court, it will sit for the first time on Monday and will offer additional support for suffers.
It is designed to encourage them to take their allegations to the courtroom, rather than withdrawing their complaint, which occurs frequently in these cases.
It will deal with incidents arising in G Division of Strathclyde Police, which covers the south side of Glasgow including Castlemilk, Govan, Pollok, Cardonald and the Gorbals.
There were an estimated 2,250 incidents involving domestic abuse in this area and around 600 police reports to the Procurator Fiscal in 2002/03.
