Stirling Sheriff retires after 25 years

Sheriff Robert Younger is to step down on health grounds

One of Scotland’s longest serving sheriffs is to retire on health grounds, after quarter of a century.

Sheriff Robert Younger, the brother of the late George Younger, became an advocate in 1968 and was first appointed to the bench at Glasgow in 1979. He moved to the Sheriffdom of Tayside, Central and Fife in 1982 and for over 10 years has been the resident sheriff in Stirling.

His decision to retire is thought to be linked to recurring heart problems, said to be a similar type to the Prime Minister’s.

He is expected to formally retire on 29 October.
