A new Dean was elected for the Faculty of Advocates yesterday

Roy Martin QC has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Advocates.

Mr Martin, who has been vice-dean of the Faculty since 2001, succeeds Colin Campbell QC who retired last month after three years in the post.

A local authority, planning and environmental expert, Mr Martin has been in practice since 1976 and was made a QC in 1988.

Mr Martin has appeared in a large number of major cases during almost three decades at the bar and has also served as a temporary sheriff, part-time chairman of industrial tribunals and chairman of the police appeals tribunals.

An election will now follow for the post of vice-dean.
