Ay family win asylum in Germany following detention in Scotland
The Ay family, the Turkish Kurds whose detention in the Dungavel immigration centre sparked huge controversy, have been granted asylum in Germany on humanitarian grounds.
It is thought that two of the four children, who spent more than a year at the centre with their mother before being deported to Germany last year, have been medically confirmed as traumatised by their experience.
The Dungavel centre is the responsibility of the Home Office but the Scottish Executive was strongly criticised at the time for failing to speak out against the family's treatment.
